Home Away From Home

We were most fortunate to be able to book a 5 night stay at Patricia Lake Bungalows at the beginning of their season. The booking was made in January and we wondered at the time if Covid 19 restrictions would play the spoiler. While some Covid restrictions were in place in our province during our booking period, they did not forbid travel within the province. As we were staying in our own bungalow and hiking by ourselves, all distancing protocols were followed.

The staff had anlready sanitized the unit, but, we did another go over on it to make ourselves more comfortable. We brought most of our own food and beverages, and our only regret is that we could not support the local businesses more.

After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding. While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

    1. They still have a few rustic cabins left, but are gradually replacing them with the new style. They only get one chance to replace the cabins under their Park’s Canada lease, so they have to make sure they get it right. Everyone always goes to Pyramid Lake Resort, but we find Patricia much quieter as it is a ways off the main road. Thanks for reading. Allan

    1. Thanks. This place has become our mountain escape home. No more tents and rough camping or even RVs. Just the comforts of home with a view. Thanks for reading. Allan

    1. Not really house hunting. Just our mountain escape. If we could only find a place like this to live, it would be rand indeed. We will have to settle for renting it from time to time. Hope all is well Marion. Allan

  1. Excellent! The wife and I have gotten away a couple of times during the fiasco, and it was much more needed than we realized. Patricia Lake looks like a great place to find some peace.

    1. Just expanding our horizons gives such a lift. Its like things are nearly normal. Patricia Lake is a beautiful get away in any season. Thanks for reading Scott. Allan

  2. What a lovely place to stay at. Hotel rooms are cramped and do not offer much in the way of comfort, not as your home does. When staying in a cabin rental, it’s like your very own home, isn’t it? Having a fully-stocked kitchen is a big plus, too! All you have to do is buy the food. 🙂 Aiva

  3. That place looks fabulous, Allan! I’m so glad you and your wife got to go on at least a short getaway. And it reminds me of when my husband and I went to Florida in January. Even though the hotel said they had sanitized everything before our arrival, we opened the door to the patio and let the room air out before we even unpacked, and then we wiped everything down with our chlorox wipes. That extra little step just made us feel so much more comfortable.

    1. It has been a great find, Ann. We are with you on the cleaning neurosis. These days, it is whatever makes one feel comfortable, even if it seems like overkill. My beloved was the infection control person in a dental office, so I am in good hands. Thanks so much for reading and have a great day. Allan
