The Current Normal – Born to Be Wild!!!!!!

An obvious homage to the recurring chorus line of Born to be Wild by Canadian rocker John Kay and Steppenwolf, one of my ultimate driving songs.

There was a lot of Wild life spotted on this day’s hike

There were the water bird’s…

There were the Chickadees

From our lunch stop, we saw a wake going across the river and thought it might be a beaver. Instead, it was a duck.
From the safety of the path after our ordeal, we spotted this squirrel. He may have been scared by our appearance.

A raucous laughing sound made us aware of this pileated woodpecker.

But the wildest thing we saw all day were these guys, after we climbed back out of the ravine.

Guess we were just…..Born to Be Wild.

After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding. While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

  1. Hi Allan, thought I’d let you know, I tried to open your post on the WP mobile app this morning. The slideshow pictures don’t appear on the app version, I had to go to my laptop to see why there was so much white in your post and the pictures opened fine. Unless it’s my phone or my wifi that’s the problem, it looks like the slideshow doesn’t work on the app. Maggie

    1. Thanks. You are the 2nd reader out there that pointed out this problem. Anyone out there know if there is a setting I can adjust to fix that? Or do I simply have a notice at the top of slideshow posts to ask people to visit the site and open the post? Thanks Allan

    1. I wonder if the woodpeckers are a Covid phenomenon. I have not seen this many of the pileated woodpeckers around ever before, including one in my back yard. Thanks for reading Lori. Hope all is going well. Allan

      1. No Like issues reported by other readers. And others have said they have no slideshow issues in Reader. Wonder if it is a phone or software issue. Strange for sure. Thanks

  2. Fantastic photos, Allan, particularly the one with the squirrel ☺️ I tried to “like” your post a few hours ago, but it didn’t work; it seems to be OK now. Thanks for sharing and have a good day. It’s finally nice and sunny here in Sligo, time to go for a walk. Aiva 😊

    1. Thanks Aiva. I am not sure what is going on with WordPress these days. I had a series of days, when the Save Draft button on the Post edit page did not work and yet it saved, some people say the slideshows do not run on Reader on phone and others say they run fine and now the Like thing. It all seems to be a bit twitchy right now. I left one photo out of what my bald head looked like after crawling back up the ravine. Nobody needed to see that. Glad your weather has turned for the better. We had a snow squall go through here last night with winds over 100 k/h. Semi trucks (lorries) blown over, trees and power lines down and I lost some shingles off my roof. Guess we had to get bad weather sometime. Now, if I can only find a roofer. Stay well Aiva and thanks for reading. Allan

      1. Hi, Allan! A few days ago I had the same problem – the Save Draft button didn’t work, and I couldn’t see any posts in my Reader section. I presumed it was to do with WordPress. But it seems to be working today. Stay warm, Allan 😊

    1. And to think one day earlier, all I had were the first two lines to the song. The other three came in one fell swoop after our ravine expedition. Yup, the red ooze was a bit tough to take on my good hikers. Thanks so much for coming along on the adventure. Allan
