That’s So 2020 – Under the Gibbous Moon

Photos taken December 3, 2020

Covid numbers continue to climb to new heights in Alberta, amid watered-down restrictions that, while threating fines and penalties, are seldom being enforced. Anti mask rallies are gaining popularity in our three largest cities, as people fight for “their rights”, which our provincial government has promised to protect under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. What many seem to fail to understand is that in a society, one person’s rights are only their rights, if they do not infringe on the rights of society or another person. We will all get through this by pulling together, not by falling apart. Meanwhile the moon will continue to shine down, regardless of which path of action is followed. It just may not shine down any longer on some of us.

Bright moon shines down on Terran realm,

gibbous phase waning in dismay,

watching Covid, Earth overwhelm,

public dissent on full display.

As leaders fail to take the helm,

Covid cases climb, day by day.

Protesters, demanding their rights

gather in super-spreader crowd,

shouting, ignoring other’s plights,

amid droplets, chanting aloud.

While they seek enemies to fight,

horrified Luna slides ‘neath cloud.

After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement. I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding. While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us. I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

  1. I love your moon photos and the poem, too! Covid numbers are finally falling in Ireland, but it could be a different story once Christmas is over. The government is pretty sure that international travel and family gatherings over the festive season will undermine recent progress. Thanks for sharing and have a good day 😀 Aiva

    1. Thanks Aiva. Wish the poem did not need to be writ. Rights will do nobody any good, once they are in the grave. Our three weeks of restrictions will be up before Christmas and given we set 2 infection records in the last week, I think harsher ones will be coming. Still in all, I have heard some comment, they do not care, they are still getting the family together for Christmas. Sitting out on the back deck with an icy coffee right now. +7 C outside the bubble, +14 inside. Life is good in the bubble. Cheers. Allan

  2. Jason Trump, er, Kenney, is a total failure as a leader, and worse, he’s providing the lunatic fringe with fuel. Such a maroon. I hope that the thinking majority tosses him out the first chance they (you) get. Unfortunately, it looks like Bonnie Henry is going to go down with him. She’s coming off as an idiot, too.

    1. You have it right. Trusting the people to do the right thing, while at the same time saying you will not enforce the restrictions and that you are not wanting to infringe on their rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is simply pouring gasoline on the fire. The minimal restrictions invoked recently should have been brought in more than 3 weeks earlier, to have any effect. I feel sorry for Deena Hinshaw and Bonnie Henry, who urge caution, while the parties in power choose the “least harmful” economic solution, which turns out to be the most harmful in the long run. The virus does not care. Thanks for reading and commenting Lynette. Allan

      1. Deena is frustrated, but all she can do is give the facts and outline the options. The United Clown Posse are the ones choosing the action or inaction. At least, the NDP take the situation seriously and listen to Bonnie.

  3. Beautiful pictures. Cases have been rising here in Ontario too and it seems like each week we’re hitting a new record for new cases. Despite having restrictions in place, there are people who continue to ignore them at the expense of everyone else. It’s disappointing especially with the promise of a vaccine on the horizon. Seems terrible for everything to fall apart so close to the finish line. Take care.

    1. Thank you. We are seeing more daily cases here now than Ontario and that is bad, as you have 3 times our population. Our restrictions are kinda suggestions, which is never going to work after 8 months of lockdown. We just have to accept that 24-28% of the population are wired differently and fail to see cause and effect. Christmas will be very small this year. Stay well and thanks for reading. Allan

    1. Thanks Ann. I was not sure how I was going to frame my post on the moon shots, but local circumstances helped me understand that like Covid, the moon does not care if we believe or do not believe in the restrictions and precautions being imposed on us. Stay well and thanks for reading. Allan
