After our Valley of the 5 Lakes hike, we still had some energy left, so opted to do another short hike. The Flower Loop is a small loop hike, adjacent to the Overlander Trail hike.
- trail head – 6th bridge on Maligne Lake Road
- distance – 2.2 km (1 1/3 miles)
- elevation gain/loss – none
We had hiked here in June and wondered what we would see in autumn.
Views of the Maligne River at 6th bridge and the trailhead.
The flowers and foliage
Scenes along the trail.
The wildlife. These ravens were extremely perturbed that we had entered their basking territory. From the last slide, you will recall we are big on shadow selfies.
The Athabasca River scenes.
Back home to 6th Bridge – we could not linger here as numerous hikers made physical distancing difficult.
Satisfied we had now had enough exercise, we headed back to the cabin.

After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding.
While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

Beautiful captures Allan, love the varied colours and flower species and the ravens did you get close to them or were they too massive for that? 🙂

I was surprised to see so many flowers still there, this late in fall. Could not get close to the ravens. They were annoyed we were there and flew to the other side of the river when we arrived. Thanks for reading and commenting. Allan

You did have a good time though. Not too sure but is that a porcupine above the picture of the ravens?

Yes. If you mean the slide with the hairy orange and black critter, this was a small caterpillar, like the ones my sons used to collect for pets. Allan

Shadow waves. Perfect for social distancing. The flowers this year were exceptional. They hung onto every last day of summer. Athabasca river scenes are breathtaking.

Shadows always show my good side…….blurry. I love the Athabasca River in the mountains and never get tired of it. Thanks for reading. See you tomorrow. Allan

I can hear the crows grumbling from here about the disturbance. They are very sociable birds and communicate a lot with each other, their ‘voice’ sounds like that of an old moaner.

I hate crows. I loved these ravens, even though they did not love me. Ravens and crows are very intelligent birds. Thanks for reading and commenting. Allan

You’re right, I was confusing crow and raven, I recognise that there is a difference. Thanks for that.

I wish we got fewer crows and more ravens in our little city. Must be a city crow, country raven scenario. A

Our son and daughter-in-law hott married beside the Athabasca River but I was busy and it was darn cold to go looking for flowers!!

We also had friends whose kids got married along the river near the JPL in December. Guaranteed cold. It can be chilly on even a sunny day. Thanks for reading Bernie. Allan

We always like shadow play. It is the easiest selfie for us old folks to take and we always look good. Thanks for reading and commenting. Have a great weekend. Allan

I am still in awe of your photos of Jasper Park… When this pandemic is over, I want to go there so badly. My pics won’t look anything like yours, but that’s okay. I’d just like to see the beautiful scenery in person!

Thanks Ann. Jasper makes photography easy. Hope you get a chance to visit. We will be there again next year at least twice. Stay well and thanks for reading. Allan

The Athabasca River scenes are truly sensational, and the water is so clean. It’s no wonder Jasper is a Unesco World Heritage site. Thanks for sharing such vast varieties of landscapes, I’ve been enjoying your latest posts very much. Aiva 🙂
