Most evenings, we would walk down to the lake shore to watch the sunset. Some evenings, there would be a lot of people there, over on the dock. We picked a spot by the rental boats, so we could maintain our distance. The first night, we sat on the overturned kayaks, but this proved uncomfortable, so on future nights, we carried the patio chairs down.
After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding.
While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

So hard to smile in 2020, for sure. Glad I am stretching the fall colours out for you. How are you holding up. I think you guys are now getting a mask mandate. Have had it here since August and it is now part of the routine. I always have my mask when I go out now, but sometimes I forget my credit card. Ha Ha. Hope all is well. Thanks for chiming in Lori. Allan
We did just get a mask mandate…kind of. If you are in a room with gatherings of more than 15 people you have to wear a mask unless you stay 6 feet apart and only if you are together longer than 15 minutes….😳, except in restaurants, you have to wear a mask if you are not eating. All in all doing ok. Hubby has it rough going to hospitals, I guess they are expanding the Covid Units as numbers rise. Knock on wood we are remaining healthy!! Kids are good! Son will be married this Saturday, of course can’t go but excited just the same!!! Love his bride to be! How are you doing??!! Hopefully well!! I have forgotten my credit card a time or two!!! Usually when I have a cart full of groceries🥺. I have hope in these vaccines so am waiting it out like everyone else!!! Take care!!!! I really love your photos!!!! Lori
Doing well, but worried. My one son works in a hospital as an SLP and often deals with Covid patients when he assesses them for swallowing disorders. Up until a couple of weeks ago, Covid cases in hospital were being handled, but, now with increasing case numbers, they have changed some surgical wards over to Covid wards (now 3). Cases climbing (not to U.S. levels) and some are still not getting the message about limiting gatherings, wearing masks, etc. They think it is a violation of their rights, but what about the rapid increase overwhelming and putting our front line workers at risk. Also, really disturbed by your wacky election goings on. As the saying goes, “You can’t write this S—“. Me and my better half are both well, staying to ourselves, lots of Skype socializing, walks, exercise, but no hugs from the kids. Despite that, we are having a good birthday season (4 birthdays in 6 weeks) and will enjoy a Christmas Skype. I really feel for you not being able to go to your son’s wedding. Both of ours got married in 2016 and I can not imagine how sad it would have been to miss that. Congrats to your family and the happy couple. We all have to strive to achieve a safe normal. Stay well Lori. Allan
I hope your son stays well! Such crazy times and I can’t figure out those who gather and don’t wear masks. Yes, US has wacky elections. Especially this year! We were in downtown Des Moines on Saturday planning to walk around the Capitol Building and look at the statues but there was a Trump rally going on. I mean seriously. Cars honking people yelling, last I heard we already had an election!!??!! So we stayed in the East Village instead and then left when the “parade” started coming our way. Ridiculous. Glad you and your wife are doing well! Sounds like a lot of birthdays🎂! How fun!! Sad about the wedding but maybe Tony & Melanie can have a one year anniversary celebration!! Stay safe!!
Ahhh! Such calming photos to start my day. And then I look out the window and remember that I am, in fact, living in Canada and surrounded by snow LOL! Have a great day Allan and stay safe 🙂
Remind me why we live here again? Oh yeah because snow is still better than earthquakes, typhoons, hurricanes, alligators… We finally have sunshine here today, which also means cold weather. May finally get out for that river valley walk…Thanks for reading Angie. Stay well. Allan
