Back at the resort after our hike, we opted to walk back along the laneway to Pyramid Lake Road to get a better look at the lake and the fall colours. Along the way, just as we were opining about the lack of wildlife, we spotted this young lady grazing on the forest foliage.
The elk (wapiti) are the largest species within the deer family and were in the middle of the rutting period. As such everyone had to watch out that they did not get too close to the bull elk or in between him and his harem. This solitary female was quite happy to be almost invisible, while she grazed.
