September 29, 2020 – Part 3 of our Old Fort Point hike
As we reached the top of the rock bluff, we saw that it was raining, which caused us some slight concern that we may get wet before our hike was finished. But, keeping in mind that every cloud has a silver lining, we also saw a magnificent rainbow across the valley, that almost brought us to tears
Pyramid Rainbow
Bands of bright colour
surround our fall mountain view.
Pyramid Rainbow.
This was too far away for us to search for that Pot of Gold. The rainbow faded and brightened as the showers continued. Patty was looking for that perfect shot.Closeup of the left (West) end of the rainbow.Wider shot starts to show Pyramid Mountain.Pyramid Mountain with Aspen patch below and rainbow above. What a view!Wide view with Jasper townsite just across the river.
Rocky path down to trailhead. Walking while gawking was a hazard.
After working for 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 3+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wanted me to do has been rewarding.
While I still miss the social aspect of working with a team of great people, I have managed to keep in touch with many from my former team and I have many friends and family members who now fulfill this part of my life. Now that my Patty has retired, we are able to spend more time in pursuits and with people who are near and dear to us.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may not become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

Like you, I am sensitive to the evanescent rainbow show. The one on Pyramid Mountain is particularly striking. Good shot.
You guys were in the right place at the right time for sure. The views are stunning and so is the landscape; I know now why you keep going back to Jasper. Thanks for sharing and showing how beautiful Canada is. Aiva 😊
It was like we were meant to go the clockwise direction on the path and to dawdle On the Verge and then by the red chairs. Any other series of events and we may have missed it entirely. Thanks for reading Aiva. Just back from a 23 mile bike ride….on November 2. Who’d a thunkit. Stay well. Allan
You can understand how it brought us to tears. To see such a large (length and breadth) rainbow was unusual. To see it with a mountain backdrop was spectacular. Thanks for reading Crystal. Allan
I completely understand. And I know how many times I’ve tried to capture a beautiful moment and how it doesn’t translate in photography. I can only imagine what that rainbow was like in person.
Wow, these pictures! You were so lucky to witness this magnificent scenery and you captured that impressive rainbow wonderfully. Thank you for sharing this, Allan.
Stunning photos! Your trip has definitely inspired me to think about Jasper next fall for our 40th. I’d forgotten how beautiful hiking in the mtns can be!

Agreed. If we had not sat for 20 minutes admiring the leaves, we may have missed it. Timing is everything. Thanks for reading and commenting. Allan
